This policy explains what cookies are, which ones OpenBluebird uses on this website, and how you can control them. Last updated 1 January 2026.
1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website places on your device when you visit. They let the site remember information between pages and across visits, such as your preferences or whether you have already seen a notice. Similar technologies, including local storage and pixels, work in comparable ways. In this policy we use the word "cookies" to cover all of these.
2. Why we use cookies
We use cookies to make this website work reliably, to remember the choices you make, and to understand in general terms how visitors find and use our pages. This helps us keep our route descriptions clear, see which neighborhoods people are most curious about, and improve the booking experience. We do not use cookies to build detailed profiles of individuals or to sell your information.
3. Strictly necessary cookies
These cookies are essential for the site to function and cannot be switched off in our systems. They include cookies that remember the items in a booking, that keep your session secure, and that record whether you have responded to the cookie banner so we do not show it again on every page. Because they are required to deliver a service you have requested, they do not rely on your consent.
4. Preference cookies
Preference cookies let the site remember choices you make, such as the region you last viewed or your preferred language. They make your return visits smoother but are not essential to the basic operation of the site. These cookies are only set when you allow preferences through our cookie banner or settings dialog.
5. Analytics cookies
Analytics cookies help us understand how the website is used, for example which pages are visited most and where visitors experience difficulty. The information is aggregated and does not directly identify you. We only set analytics cookies after you have given consent, and you can withdraw that consent at any time through the settings dialog.
6. Third-party cookies
Some cookies may be set by trusted service providers that support features such as payment processing, embedded maps, or analytics. These providers set cookies in line with their own policies, which we encourage you to review. We choose our providers carefully and limit the data they can collect through our site to what is necessary for the feature to work.
7. How long cookies last
Session cookies are temporary and are deleted when you close your browser. Persistent cookies remain on your device for a set period or until you delete them, and are used to remember choices across visits. The exact lifetime varies by cookie and by its purpose, ranging from the length of a single visit to several months.
8. Managing cookies on this site
When you first visit, our cookie banner lets you accept all cookies or open the settings dialog to choose which non-essential categories to allow. You can reopen the settings dialog at any time to change your choices. Strictly necessary cookies will always remain active because the site cannot function properly without them.
9. Managing cookies in your browser
Most browsers let you view, block and delete cookies through their settings. You can usually choose to be warned before a cookie is stored, or to refuse cookies entirely. Please note that blocking some cookies may affect how the site works, and you may need to re-enter preferences each time you visit. Instructions for managing cookies are provided in your browser's help pages.
10. Do Not Track
Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" signal. Because there is no common industry standard for how such signals should be interpreted, we do not currently respond to them. You can control non-essential cookies using the methods described above, which give you direct control over what is set on your device.
11. What we keep in your browser today
OpenBluebird’s website currently uses no analytics, advertising or social-media cookies. The single thing saved in your browser is your answer to the cookie banner, stored in local storage under a key that begins with “wh_consent_”. It records which categories you allowed and when, so we do not interrupt you again as you move between the Yanaka, Kagurazaka and other walk pages.
Before adding any optional tool we will update this page, and the tool will stay off until you allow it in the settings dialog.
12. Fonts delivered by Google
The text on this site is set in typefaces loaded from Google Fonts. Opening a page makes your browser request the font files from Google’s servers, which receive your IP address and basic browser information. No cookie is stored and Google says it does not use the data for advertising. We mention it because it is the only outside service every page contacts.
13. Changes and contact
We may update this policy as our use of cookies changes or as the law develops. We will update the date at the top of the page when we do. If you have any question about our use of cookies, please contact us at hello@openbluebird.com or call 03-3631-3873, and we will be glad to help.
We store your cookie decision on this device. Optional cookies that would tell us which neighborhood walks people browse remain off unless you turn them on. Read our Cookie Policy
